Deuterium-Depleted Water and The Powerhouse Function of Mitochondria

Did You Know?

By choosing a lifestyle that includes drinking deuterium-depleted water, daily consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables, regular exercise, avoidance of sugary foods, control of appetite and avoiding smoking, anyone can tune up their mitochondria, which should help to promote a long and very healthy life.

Mitochondria Matters

Releasing energy from food is the key job of Mitochondria, those tiny organelles inside cells. This process is known as cellular respiration. It is for this reason that mitochondria are often referred to as the powerhouses of the cell. Cells that need a lot of energy, like muscle cells, can contain thousands of mitochondria.

Mitochondria play a key role in the ageing process as well as in the onset of degenerative disease.

When the breakdown products from the digestion of food find their way into the cell, a series of chemical reactions occur in the cytoplasm. This allows some of the energy locked up in these products to be released and incorporated into the universal energy supplier in cells known as ATP (adenosine triphosphate).

Remaining molecular fragments from this process then enter the mitochondria, and in a complex series of steps, they are finally converted into carbon dioxide and water. The energy locked up in these fragments is incorporated into more ATP. The ATP molecules produced in this way can then be used by the cell to supply the energy needed to function.

In the cell cytoplasm, glucose is broken down to pyruvate. On entry to the mitochondria, pyruvate is converted to carbon dioxide and water. Its chemical potential energy is transferred to ATP.

It has been estimated that, in an average person, the turnover rate (the rate at which ATP is produced and consumed) is a massive 65 kg per day.

The human body is a fantastically energetic machine. It has been estimated that, kilogram for kilogram, the human body, when sitting comfortably, is converting 10,000 times more energy than the Sun in every second!

Did you know? Free radicals are a byproduct of respiration

During cellular respiration, highly reactive molecules called free radicals are formed within mitochondria. Perhaps the best known free radical produced in this way is the superoxide radical, O2-.

Free radicals are potentially very damaging to cell components such as proteins and genetic material like DNA and RNA. If too many free radicals are released in the mitochondria, the damage can be severe, resulting ultimately in the death of the cell. To protect against free radical damage, mitochondria produce their own antioxidant enzymes. One such enzyme is known as superoxide dismutase or SOD.

Free radicals and antioxidants

Although free radicals are damaging, they have an important signaling role. Scientists now believe that mitochondria operate a sensitive feedback mechanism in which some of the free radicals themselves act as signals to the cell, causing it to calibrate and adjust cellular respiration, so to remove them completely is not good for the cell.

Antioxidants in mitochondria
Chemicals present in some fruits and vegetables have been shown to have antioxidant activity. This means that, in laboratory tests, they can neutralise free radicals. It was thought that consuming these foods, or extracts made from them, would help the body to remove damaging free radicals.

FACT:

Deuterium-depleted water contains up to ten times less deuterium than fruits and vegetables! This is why deuterium-depleted water is the best solution for helping mitochondria work properly!

Recent research suggests that antioxidants work differently in the body than in the laboratory. It is now thought that some antioxidants, in particular, a class of plant chemicals known as polyphenols, have a direct effect on the mitochondria. It appears that they stimulate the mitochondria to become more efficient in generating energy from food, so they generate fewer free radicals and neutralise them more quickly. It is as if the functioning of the mitochondria is being ‘tuned up’ by these polyphenols – an effect similar to that induced in the mitochondria by exercise.

Healthy mitochondria
If mitochondria are not functioning efficiently, their energy-producing capacity is reduced, more free radicals escape causing damage to the cell and early cell death may follow.

Research over recent years is indicating that the health of mitochondria is very much lifestyle and diet dependent. Excessive consumption of sugary foods and beverages reduces mitochondrial efficiency. Lack of exercise reduces the number of mitochondria in active cells such as muscle, and they become inefficient, leaking out more free radicals into the cell.

On the other hand, deuterium-depleted water is best for mitochondria, because all the energy that mitochondria is using for neutralizing deuterium is made available for your metabolism, being redirected to fighting diseases.

PREVENT. RECOVER. PROTECT.

Where does our life force come from? What keeps all that billions of cells and elements in our bodies in that perfect balance called “Health”? What gives our bodies the energy, not only to enjoy life, but to fight the millions of visible and invisible threats to our health?

The medical world knows the answer for over two hundred years: the membrane-bound cell organelles called “mitochondria”. They generate most of the chemical energy needed to power the cell’s biochemical reactions.

The role of mitochondria is “oxidative phosphorylation”, the chemical process that generates ATP (adenosine triphosphate) by utilizing the energy released during the oxidation of the food we eat. ATP is used in turn as the primary energy source for most biochemical and physiological processes, such as growth, movement and, most important, homeostasis, the physiological equilibrium we call “health”.

But there is one element that can negatively influence the energy production of mitochondria: deuterium.

Deuterium is not a toxin, but a natural occurring element and it is everywhere. It is in the air we breathe, in any liquids and food we eat and drink. While the human organism has a built-in deuterium depletion mechanism, it can only process a certain amount of deuterium. When its capacity is exceeded, our body starts to accumulate this element.

Modern life is the main source of increased deuterium levels, like stress, processed foods, sleep deprivation, obesity, electromagnetic radiation of electronic equipment. All of these and more contribute to the accumulation of deuterium in mitochondria. As a result, these tiny power cells, the true life force of our bodies, fail to produce the energy needed to keep us going and to fight disease.

This is why reducing the deuterium levels in your body is vital.

Before everything else, make sure that your body natural shield against disease is working at its full capacity

While there are lots of foods low in deuterium, no food can even begin to equal the low deuterium content of deuterium depleted water. For example, green and leafy plants contain up to seven times more deuterium than 25 ppm deuterium depleted water.

Why deuterium is to blame for disease and weakened immune responses?

Too high deuterium levels means that deuterium increasingly take the place of regular hydrogens and negatively affect the good functioning of the cells.

How increased deuterium levels can block the aptness of your body to stay healthy:

1. Vital energy production: deuterium that takes the place of hydrogen inside your mitochondria, breaks your delicate cellular “engines.” As a result, the mitochondria loses their ability to produce the cellular energy our body relies on to fight disease and stay healthy.

2. Cellular structure and signaling: when deuterium takes the place of hydrogen as a building block for DNA, body tissue, and organs, it can lead to abnormal cell growth and immune responses.

The good news

Today, the deuterium depleted water makes it fairly easy to keep the deuterium level in your body inside normal values. While ignored for a long time by the scientific and medical community, deuterium depleted water is now largely accepted, both as the foundation for health, and as a shield against premature aging, metabolic problems, and disease.

You don’t need to keep using deuterium depleted water forever if you learn how to manage your levels naturally. Once you learn how to help your own metabolism, your body will do the rest.

Cardiac Heart Rate Dependence on Mitochondrial Deuterium 2H Content

Mitochondrial cardiac ATP production efficiency in beef hearts has been known to decrease with increasing systemic deuterium 2H levels since the 1980’s. Recently ketogenic diets which are known to decrease deuterium levels in humans were found to decrease both the resting and exercise heart rates in a volunteer. Furthermore, resting heart rates were found to systematically vary with the deuterium content from the previous meal consumed by six volunteers. A cardiac model is proposed showing extreme sensitivity of heart rate on the deuterium loading of the ATP synthase nanomotors. A predicted increase in heart rate by 28% is expected with a 5% decrease in ATP production. This finding strongly suggests that high deuterium levels in the fatty acids contribute to the diastolic dysfunction in heart failure not already attributed to direct structural damage, i.e., heart failure with preserved ejection fraction.

NOT ALL DEUTERIUM DEPLETED WATERS ARE THE SAME. WHICH BRAND OF DEUTERIUM DEPLETED WATER IS BEST FOR YOU?

Deuterium-depleted water is produced in a few locations worldwide, in industrial factories, following a high energy-consuming process (which explains the price). Once it is made, the deuterium-depleted water should be tested and certified in a professional laboratory to prove its low deuterium content and purity. It is a time-consuming and delicate process, and the data should be well within the parameters that American law requires.

For all these reasons, we recommend the Hydro Health DDW brand, the only deuterium-depleted water produced in the USA. This brand has all certifications in good order, as written on the label.

Furthermore, the company is SAM.GOV certified (Certified US Government Supplier). The deuterium-depleted water is tested frequently by a third-party certified laboratory, and the water is well within all purity and quality parameters.

All Hydro Health DDW products are bottled by White Water, Phoenix, AZ 602.462.5300 www.whitewaternow.com for Eurogator LLC, 628 Ellen Drive, Winter Park, FL, 32789 www.extralightwater.com

Hydro Health DDW comes in 500ml PET bottles in three low deuterium concentrations (ppm= parts per million): 25 ppm,  50 ppm, and this year, also 12 ppm,  and the products can be safely ordered online HERE and HERE

FREEING YOUR CELLS FROM THE HEAVY BURDEN OF DEUTERIUM IS THE KEY TO BOOSTING YOUR INNER HEALER

Deuterium is not a toxin, but a naturally occurring element, a heavier isotope of hydrogen,  which is present, along with hydrogen, practically everywhere. The deuterium that we live within our bodies comes mainly from the drinks and food we ingest, which confirms the popular saying that we are what we eat and drink.

Our lifestyle also influences the accumulation of deuterium in our bodies. It was proven that a stressful life, obesity, electronic apparel, junk food, and even the country we live in become factors that affect our metabolism and handle deuterium.

Whenever we become sick or not in our best shape, it is wise to first consider the deuterium levels in our bodies. Deuterium, a heavier isotope of hydrogen, tends to replace hydrogen in our cells. It may negatively affect the functioning of those tiny organelles in the cells, the “power engines” of our bodies called mitochondria.

Mitochondria are present in all our body cells, with the highest density in the brain, muscles, and kidneys. Mitochondrial dysfunctions may indicate that our metabolism does not fully have enough energy to activate its genetic, self-healing abilities. It explains why many diseases start with headaches, muscle weakness, and kidney problems.

When this happens, it might be a good idea to do whatever is possible to help mitochondria, the energy plant for our metabolism, to function at full capacity. And there is no faster way to do this than diluting the deuterium in your body by drinking deuterium-depleted water.

Our bodies are genetically pre-programmed to achieve and maintain homeostasis (the physiological equilibrium we call “health”). To get and stay healthy, you can work along your body’s self-defending mechanisms and restore them to their full self-healing capacity.

HOW A HEALTHY METABOLISM SHIELDS YOU FROM CANCER, METABOLIC DISEASES AND IMMUNE DYSFUNCTIONS

“No matter how much it gets abused, the body can restore balance. The first rule is to stop interfering with nature.” said the Indian-American author and alternative medicine advocate Deepak Chopra. However, there is nothing ”alternative” about the scientific fact that your body is genetically pre-programmed to function to achieve ”homeostasis”, the medical term for ”health.”

Our metabolism moves naturally towards health, providing it has sufficient energy to do so. And the energy provider of the human body is a tiny organelle located inside our cells called mitochondria. The role of mitochondria is “oxidative phosphorylation,” which is the chemical process that generates ATP (adenosine triphosphate). The process happens by utilizing the energy released during the oxidation of the food we eat.

ATP is used, in turn, as the primary energy source for most biochemical and physiological processes, such as growth, movement, and, most important, homeostasis, the physiological equilibrium we call “health.”

The only thing that can stop mitochondria from playing a vital role in providing enough energy for key metabolic processes is the accumulation of deuterium. As the normal concentration of deuterium in human body fluids is 150 ppm, even the slightest increase in this value is a sign that those little power plants are not working properly and the metabolic functions are to be disrupted, leading to all kinds of diseases.

Of course, a good idea might be to directly resolve the problem that created the issue: excess deuterium by reducing the deuterium levels in your body, thus allowing the mitochondria to produce the energy necessary for natural metabolic healing.

And there is no way to do this other than diluting the deuterium concentration in your body fluids by drinking deuterium-depleted water.

For example, the body of a 70 kg male contains 42 liters of water (60% of the body weight: 28 liters, intracellular fluid compartment and 14 liters, extracellular fluid compartment. It is logical that when you change the quality and the properties of the water you drink, you change your metabolism.

In this case, reducing deuterium levels in your body can be achieved slowly by replacing some plain water with deuterium depleted water; or by completely replacing plain water with deuterium-depleted water.

Does simply replacing plain water with deuterium-depleted water cures diseases? No one can say. But it certainly gives your metabolic engine the full energy to heal itself or better respond to medical treatment. This is why deuterium-depleted water is best as an adjacent to medicine. It lays the foundation for healing.

A HEALTHY METABOLISM IS THE BEST PROTECTION AGAINST DISEASE AND PREMATURE AGING

Here is the truth: even the most potent drugs can not do what your body can do for itself. Our bodies are genetically pre-programmed to achieve and maintain homeostasis (the physiological equilibrium we call “health”). It’s common sense that the best thing you can do to get and stay healthy is to work with your body’s self-defending mechanisms and restores them to their full self-healing capacity.

Deuterium-depleted water is the simplest way to recover, prevent and shield yourself from disease. Diluting the excess deuterium in your body fluids restores the normal deuterium levels and allows the key organs involved in reaching homeostasis to work properly, keeping you healthy.

Here is another truth: deuterium-depleted water does not cure cancer, immune dysfunctions, and diseases. Its effects are even better: it puts your body in the best position to fight infections or illnesses, better respond to professional medical treatment, and be functional again as soon as possible.

Deuterium-depleted water is your best companion when you fight disease or want to avoid illness. Because of the positive effect in helping mitochondria, the power plants of your cells, produce energy at their full capacity, deuterium-depleted water is the best adjacent to your medical treatment, diet, or lifestyle.

How much deuterium-depleted water should you drink to reach an optimum state of health? Should you drink it forever? Read the answers HERE
